Today marks my first day as a full-time professional Witch.

What I mean by that, is that my day job ended Friday (I can now start my real job). For those who don’t know the story, my job has been going away “Next Year” for the past 5 years or so. First, it was Upper Management believing that we didn’t do anything important, so they could give our jobs to a 3rd party vendor.

What they found (after several years, and tens of millions of dollars spent) was that not only do we do something important, we are the heart (as in the pump that circulates the blood) and the brains (as in the intelligence center) of the company.

Then the owner decided to sell the company.

I don’t blame him. He’s in his 70’s, none of his kids want to take over, and he was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer a couple of years ago. Everyone at the company got their Pink Slip. The difference was that I already had three years to get used to the idea. The rest of the company didn’t.

Before you start worrying about me, understand that the company, having realized how important my department was to the daily operations, started throwing money at us to keep us until the end. They needed us to make sure the transition to the new company was smooth. They also offered a very generous severance package. We literally turned out the lights for the last time, on Friday.

The picture, is the last few of us who were left at the very end. Some of these people I have seen every day for the last 30 years. I will miss some of them quite a lot.

What that means for me, is that I now have the time (and the money) to do what I really want.

What I really want, is to get Witchcraft Academy up and running the way I originally envisioned. Teaching you about Witchcraft (and possibly other Traditions) and becoming the go-to source for all your questions.

I haven’t been very good at that. I’ve been too busy working 50 hours a week at a Day Job. Now that I have the free time, where I don’t feel drained by the time I get home, I plan to change that.

Witchcraft Academy is my new job.

As my own boss, what I make will be determined by my skill, and knowledge, not by what someone who doesn’t even know me, has arbitrarily decided my job is worth. I also won’t have to put up with office politics, stupid rules based on this week’s flavor of Political Correctness, or buzzwords that the Corporate World thinks makes them sound smarter.

I can now spend 8 (or more) hours a day, working on classes and courses for you. Witchcraft Academy was always meant to be a business. I will still put out a lot of “free stuff”, more now, in fact, since I have the time to actually create it. That includes a new blog post at least once a week, on Mondays. The free stuff, as always, will be things you can use right away, but because there’s only so much space in a blog, or web page, it’s only going to scratch the surface.

I have a lot of plans for classes and courses I want to teach. Those will cost money, but I promise to price them reasonably. Why charge? Because I have knowledge I’ve gained from 30 years of hard work. That’s valuable. It costs me money to keep Witchcraft Academy up on the Internet. Websites aren’t free.

Mostly though, I have learned that knowledge gained without some form of payment, whether that be hard work and study, or dollars and cents, has no value to the person who gets it. Because they are not paying for it, they feel free to pick and choose what they think is interesting. The really useful stuff is never interesting. Free knowledge is worth exactly what you paid for it. By spending some money, you will have reason to do all the work. You’ll want to get your money’s worth.

As I was telling some friends at my Witchcraft Meetup on Saturday, it seems appropriate that this life change happened at Samhain. The Celts saw this time of year as the end of the old year, and beginning of the new.

It’s the Season of Death, where all the year’s work has been done. The crops have been harvested, and it’s time to rest, and plan for next year’s planting.

Next Monday I’ll have a blog post about how you can use this time of year to create whatever you desire, in the coming year.

Blessed Be,

Ken that is great news and I am so excited for you. I too have chosen last Samhain to commit full time to my craft and writing. I saw your vision for this site and thought it was exactly what so many pagans, both new and seasoned, needed to help them along their own path of discovery. There is nothing else like The Witchcraft Academy out there and the fact that you know your craft better than most will surely make Witchcraft Academy the go-to source for all magical knowledge. I literally have thousands of my listeners that I will send your way my friend.

      Blessings,

        Thank you Marcus.

I’ve already started work on my first real course. I can’t go into detail, but for those who are new, and wondering where to start, this will be specifically for them.

    • […] Last week I told you that I was going to tell you how to get all your desires in the coming year. As Witches, we understand that our lives are inextricably tied to the seasons. It’s only when we lose touch with that fact, that our lives begin to fall apart. […]
